Porcine diseases


 The following are the symptoms of a sick pig;-

  1.  shows no signs of appetite
  2.  may breathe rapidly, a sign of fever
  3.  dry eyes
  4.  dry skin
  5.  he is growing apart
  6.  ears sleep
  7.  on fair skin the skin may turn red
  8.  tail is thin
  9.  to pass stool at another time to pass blood

DISEASES CAUSED BY INSECTS

Internal worms: Worms are the main parasites that affect the intestines of pigs. There are more than 30 types of worms, but the worms that affect most often are round worms and tape worms.

This round worm lives in the large intestine of pigs and takes food from the pigs, so the pigs can lose weight. 

Roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides) are the most common. These worms are as big as a pencil. Infection begins when the animal eats food containing the eggs of these worms.

SYMPTOMS

  1. Feather loss (anorexia).
  2. Anemia.
  3. After the weight decreases.
  4. If worms are not treated when they are large, they can rupture the intestines and cause death.

PREVENTION

·Prevention by putting medicine in food and using clean utensils

·Grazing using a rotational method and treating the grass

·Separating children and adults

·Giving them deworming medication regularly

·Wash the female before giving birth.

·You can use moringa trees

Tape worm

These grow like ribbons and are found in different places in the world. They do not have a gut so they eat through their skin and absorb nutrients. They absorb folic acid and vitamin B-12 in the body, they can cause poisoning because after eating they leave dirt and it grows like a ball that sits near the liver.

SYMPTOMS

·Stammering

·Anemia

·Skin changes and becomes worse

PREVENTION

·Giving them deworming drugs

·Ensure that those caring for pigs use the toilet and clean it.

EXTERNAL INSECTS

External parasites include mange.lies and myiasis

It is caused by insects called mites that live on the skin of pigs in the areas around the eyes, ears, legs and neck.

SYMPTOMS

· The pig is growing up with scratches on the wall on its legs, ears, eyes and ears.

·The skin develops patches like warts and red, ulcer-like lines

·The pigeon's feathers are ruffled.

·The castle is growing, we are not resting

·Deaths

·And anemia in piglet

PREVENTION·         

Wash the pig twice a week.         

Men need to be washed too.         

Give them medicine every time a pig enters your farm.

TREATMENT ·         

You can also wash them with clean water and soap.         

You can wash them with organophosphate.         

You can inject them with Ivermectin because it really helps.

LICE These are blood suckers and their symptoms are anemia and the animal also develops red spots on the body. You can also treat them by using insecticides, benzene hexachloride is used to kill lice.

MYIASIS

This is a disease caused by flies that lay eggs in the wounds. The eggs grow to the point of becoming large flies and cause the wound to become larger. The wound becomes dirty and looks like a black mold which are the eggs of the flies, so to prevent this you need to clean the shed and reduce the number of pigs in the shed so that they do not crowd together.

DEWORMING

Deworming medications that have been proven safe when given according to proper instructions are as follows:

  • vermectin (Ivomec®), 
  • fenbendazole (Safe-Guard®), 
  • levamisole (Tramisol®, 
  • Levasole®), 
  • pyrantel (Banminth®), 
  • dichlorvos (Atgard®) and Piperazine.

You can schedule your vaccinations and arrange with your veterinarian to ensure they are vaccinated on the correct day.         

Boars – every 6 months         

Sows – 2 weeks before calving and after weaning         

Piglets – 1 week after weaning         

Fatteners – one week after weaning and three months later          

Gilts – 1 week after weaning and can be repeated three months later .
