Cattle are most commonly domesticated animals.

Cattle are raised as livestock for meat, as dairy animals for milk and other dairy products, and as draft animals for pulling carts.

Cattle farm – farm consisting of a large tract of land along with facilities needed to raise livestock (especially cattle). Cattle (cows and buffaloes) are next to land in use for farmers. Human beings domesticate them for milk, also for meat, leather and transportation.

Thus, cattle raising is done to fulfill the specific needs for dairy , drought or dual purpose of breeds. Generic name of cow is Bos indicus, it is adapted for drier regions of the country such as Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Buffalo is commonly called water buffalo; its generic name is Bubalus bubalis. It is well adapted for wet areas and river beds.
