Guernsey, the race developed Breeds

The Guernsey breed has a very good performance in pastures and has an outstanding maternal skill.Guernsey, a small island, is the place of origin of the Guernsey cow. The development of this race dates from 960 BC, when the monks brought French cattle (mainly Norman) to the island.

These animals were the basis of most of the Guernseys that came to the new continent.American GuernseysWith the premise that identification is crucial to preserve the purity of the breed, a group of Guernsey breeders founded the American Guernsey Cattle Club in 1877.

 Since then, the organization has registered more than three million Guernsey. At present, the American Guernsey Association, the American organization that registers and promotes the Guernsey cattle, has introduced many programs for the positioning and establishment of the breed.Genetic improvementIn genetic terms, the current Guernsey cattle are very different from those cattle developed in the year 960 BC. Due to the advent and commercialization of artificial insemination, an important genetic improvement and the expression of desirable breed nature characters have been achieved.The strengths of GuernseyGuernsey cattle are known for producing milk with high 

• Concentrations of fat,
• Protein and beta-carotene.

 Due to its intermediate body size, this breed produces high quality milk and consumes between 20 to 30 percent less per kilogram of milk produced compared to the most recognized dairy breeds.  
Other characteristics of Guernsey that most attracts the attention of producers is the high adaptability that it has.
